Western Isles Track and Field 06

A massive team from North Uist made the annual trip up to Stornoway running track to compete against their Lewis counterparts in the Western Isles Track and Field Championships 2006.  The even took place on the 2nd of September, a week after the NUUAC history making trip to the Scottish National Age Groups.  There was a good local turnout on what was a warm day, but there was unfortunately a very strong wind against the runners in the home straight.

This year the triple jump and hurdle races were introduced (these events have been dropped in the past) due to popular demand.  The North Uist competitors did not dissapiont in these events or any for that matter.  Several athletes produced great preformances and in many cases came home with the rewards in terms of medals.

The trip was a really enjoyable one for everyone, and the only sour note was a accident regarding a broken bone to young Katie Hocine.  The whole club wishes her a speedy recovery.  Other than that the event ran behind schedule by at least an hour in the end, like always! But it was yet another terrific track performance from the club as a whole.

There was many, many adults and helpers that made the trip up with the team and a thanks goes out to them all as it is them that make these trips possible.
