Throwing

Wednesday night is Throwing training night at Paible School.  Using the indoor hall during the winter and the available outdoor facilities during the summer this night is to improve conditioning and develop technique of the North Uist AAC throwers.

There is a regular group of about 14 youngsters and 4 adults that attend this weekly session.  Jamie Quarm, who gained his Level 1 coaching qualifications, heads the group and is always enthusiastic about the level of potential that is being harboured in North Uist.  Medicine balls form the core of the conditioning work that also includes circuit training and weight training.  There are18 exercises that are performed every week that are designed to work the muscles that are so crucial to throwing.  But it is not just upper body strength that is worked on, every part of the body is stretched and worked to make the athletes develop on the whole rather than in singular areas.

The group was set up after the visit from the Elgin AAC coaches George and Lesley Loney and thanks to their teaching and exercises everyone attending has a depth of knowledge in what they are doing and why they are doing it.  The sessions are open to boys and girls.
