North Uist AAC made its first ever appearence at the North District Cross Country Relays on the 14th of October 2006. It was hosted by Stornoway RAC and was held at Inverbroom, near Ullapool
for ease of travelling for the mainland clubs, particulary the ones on the North-East coast of Scotland. Only 4 teams were sent from NUAAC, two girls and two boys. Each team consists of each age group runner to
make up the team. The under-13 runner traditionally goes first followed by the under-15 runner then the under 17 runner finishes. The rules are slightly different for senior runners but only junior teams
were entered by the club on this occasion. The teams were missing many of the more experienced, perhaps better runners but despite this there was good performances overall. The stand out individual performances
came from Angus MacDougall getting the 3rd quickest time overall in the boys catergory as well as the quickest NUUAC time. In the girls catergory Fiona Morrison, an under 15 runner, got the fastest girls NUAAC
time of the day with a strong leg. It was a good trip, if not completely successfull in terms of medal returns. The team left on Friday and stayed in Inverness youth hostel on that night. The race was on
Saturday and after it the team returned to Inverness for shopping, food and a few games of ten-pin bowling. That night the team stayed at Loch Ness youth hostel and on the sunday the team travelled back to Uist.
A thanks goes to Chris and Mary Spears as well as Sandra MacIntosh for looking after the teams on this trip. |
